Local firm helps school flip |

Pupils at Beoley School are flipping delighted thanks to Redditch firm, Oakland International, who have teamed up with Rutland Foods, to ensure this year’s Pancake Day, Tuesday 8th March, is flipping marvellous.
Oakland Marketing and Events Co-ordinator, Hayley Smith, stated: “Every year we work with our customers to offer support and practical help to local schools and charities from across the region. Rutland Foods, an Oakland customer, offered to provide as many free pancakes as we needed to help the school with their pancake celebrations and we are extremely grateful for their support.”
Historically Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is the traditional day of feasting before Ash Wednesday, and the 40 days of Lent leading up to Easter. Shrove Tuesday enables Christians and those observing the Lent practice, to use up their surplus eggs and fats before embarking upon the traditional Lenten fast, with pancakes offering the perfect way of utilising these ingredients.
Beoley Primary Headteacher, Sally Davies, said: “Thank you to Oakland for supplying us with pancakes for Shrove Tuesday. We are always grateful for their support and value these community links. As you can imagine, the pancakes went down very well with the children and staff!”
As a specialist contract packing, storage and logistics firm, Oakland works with many well-known household names from across the UK’s diverse foodservice industry, regularly enlisting their help with many local charitable and educational events throughout the year.
Said Hayley: “Providing free pancakes allows the school to take part, and helps explain the origins of Shrove Tuesday. We extend our sincere thanks to Rutland Foods for their generosity in helping make this possible.”
