Oakland Internataional and Proteus to exhibit at Multimodal event

Warehouse Management Systems provider Proteus Software and their client multi temperature supply chain specialist, Oakland International Limited, will both be joining a host of other exhibitors at this year’s must visit freight transport and logistics event, Multimodal 2009. The event is being held at the NEC, Birmingham on 28th to 30th April in Hall 9. Proteus and Oakland are located on the UKWA Pavilion, stand no’s 480 and 470 respectively.

Proteus Software has been supplying warehouse management systems to Oakland International, a major international third party logistics organisation, for several years. Proteus has extensive experience in developing and implementing integrated solutions covering warehouse management, inventory control and sales ordering. Since 1987, Proteus has specialised in the development and implementation of robust and function rich solutions for the supply chain.

Proteus Software also has a successful and proven methodology for managing the implementation process to ensure a successful and timely outcome, essential to ensuring service levels are not impacted during the process.

Oakland International has implemented a range of PROTEUS modules including Warehouse Management, Inventory Control, Sales Order Processing, Load Planning, Pick Planning and Electronic Trading. Best before dates are key to the Oakland International business operation and these facilities are provided throughout the system.

The PROTEUS Inventory and Warehouse Management systems provide a fully directed paperless warehouse environment using bar codes and radio frequency terminals. The system optimises warehouse movements and provides enhanced accuracy, speed, and warehouse performance. Bar code reading facilities can be used for receipt, putaway, picking, despatch, replenishment and stock take. Users of PROTEUS have seen their productivity rise by over 70% since implementing the system.

The system provides a robust and powerful IT solution that supports the exciting growth plans of Oakland. The experience of Proteus Software in this sector ensures a close functional match to Oakland’s requirements, and reinforces the confidence of both companies that they will continue to work successfully in close partnership for many years to come.

In providing services to the major retailers, Oakland’s success has been built upon the provision of high levels of service and careful planning to ensure the right items are delivered to the required location at the scheduled time. The company has extended its growth and expansion momentum despite the global economic downturn, broadening operations in 2009 with a new Irish depot opening in the summer, and taking on new staff to support their increasing Midland’s based storage and logistics operation.

Oakland’s Managing Director, Dean Attwell, commenting on Oakland’s attendance at this year’s show said: “Multimodal is quite simply unique, being the only event in its field to incorporate the complete spectrum of freight transportation and logistics.”

Oakland has a passion for providing a high quality service that encompasses superb value for money and over a decade of trading we now work with leaders from across the food industry spectrum, helping lead the way with innovative temperature controlled storage and distribution schemes, which are both cost effective and environmentally friendly.”

Multimodal has already grown by 60% in its second year, with new exhibitors representing 30% of this expansion. Dean said “This is a great opportunity to exhibit at a national level joining many others taking advantage of this totally unique event. Multimodal is not only educational, it will be topical and an informative experience for all buyers, sellers or equipment suppliers. It promises to be a stimulating and interactive environment where we can all build our businesses and expand on our existing customer connections.”

David Gray CEO of Proteus Software commented, “We are very pleased that both Proteus Software and Oakland International are attending Multimodal 2009. Visitors to our stand will be able to view PROTEUS WMS in operation at Oakland International and will be able to have questions answered as to how the partnership has been truly beneficial for both companies."

After its first year being a resounding success for Multimodal 2008, the event is now on course to become the UK’s foremost transport and logistics exhibition and is already beginning to be seen as an ideal way to source new products and services, and to make new contacts within this specialist industry.
