Rose Shepherd from Redditch has pledged to take part in a challenging 11-day trek in China to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of her two sisters who sadly lost their battle against cancer.
From the 24th April until the 4th May, Rose will trek along the ancient and remote parts of the Great Wall of China to complete her objective. Trekking approximately seven hours a day, covering many miles, Rose will encounter a number of very steep and challenging climbs along the way.
Said Rose: “Thank you to everyone who is supporting me, and I would like to thank my daughter-in-law Angela for asking her employer, Oakland International, to provide my t-shirts and £100 sponsorship, and all their staff for their support. I aim to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and enjoy the Chinese way of life as I make my way along the Yanshan Mountains.”
Rose decided to take part after losing two of her sisters, Mary and Evelyn, to cancer. The first died in 1989 and the second, in 2007. Said Rose: “I am really looking forward to the challenge of trekking through such a beautiful part of the world, and at the same time doing my bit for such a worthy cause.”
“So many of us are affected by this dreadful disease, having part of our lives taken away by cancer,” said Rose. “The money I raise will be used to fund specialist Macmillan nurses and doctors who deliver the best cancer care, build vitally needed cancer centres and give financial help to those who need it most.”
Rose is covering the cost of the trip plus expenses so 100 per cent of sponsorship will go to Macmillan. She is on target to raise more than £3,200.
