Pete Long to join WYJO at the Artrix

 

Pete Long will be this year’s guest artist joining the Worcestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra (WYJO) when it performs at the Artrix Theatre, Bromsgrove on Wednesday 11th July.

The orchestra which includes some of the counties finest young musicians has played in Europe and continues to perform at many prestigious venues up and down the country, building a strong reputation amongst those who love the quintessential sound of jazz.

Performing with the orchestra, Pete Long, alto sax/clarinet superstar will be their special guest. Working with a diversity of artists Pete has performed with Lionel Richie, the Stereophonics, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Sting, Jools Holland, Sir Paul McCartney, Ray Davis, Chick Chorea, John Scofield and Dizzy Gillespie to name only a few!

Musical Director Ian Hattersley said: “The Artrix is an amazing venue and promises to be another fantastic evening for great music. Performing with Pete Long and the orchestra is always a delight.”

The orchestra is ranked as one of the finest of the county’s jazz groups and continues to build a loyal following amongst jazz music lovers. Aspiring WYJO members are encouraged to audition from an early age, with no minimum age, only an upper age limit of 25 years.

Said Mr Hattersley: “The orchestra loves to perform and playing a selection of musical arrangements for the audience’s enjoyment. Focused at all times, we work tirelessly to ensure that the orchestra members have as many opportunities as possible to enable them to grow and develop their musical talents.”
