School sponsorship ensures Dutch sports trip

Returning home from their recent Dutch tour and looking good in their new team colours, jubilant students from Waseley Hills High School played football and korfball, a cross between netball and basketball, and are delighted following a successful sports tour playing students from Noordwijk Aan Zee, in Holland.

Teacher and coach, Paul Phelps, said: “We are so grateful to CSL for sponsoring the student’s sports kit, we really couldn’t have gone ahead with the trip without it.”

The purpose for the tour was to enrich the student’s educational experience, giving them lifelong and lasting impressions of school life, with school trips like these providing excellent opportunities to promote and foster team building skills.

Said Paul: “It was a great opportunity meeting students from a different country and to experience Dutch cultural diversity. Using communication, empathy and relationship building skills in a way that they have never experienced before.

“In addition, they get to see us, their teachers, as people. Apart from the obvious and very positive educational advantages that come from a trip like this, they also have a great deal of FUN!”

Travelling via coach from Dover, the pupils played two games against the local Dutch opposition. The boys played football and the girls, who after only 10-weeks of playing the sport took part in two games of korfball, the Dutch national sport. The students sponsored kit also provided them with a commemorative souvenir of their trip.

CSL Director, Pete Twist, said: “We were happy to support the school and delighted that they all had a great time. Cultural visits for students are a fantastic part of school life, providing exchange opportunities and the opportunity to experience different foods and diverse languages; long may that continue.”
