Speller Metcalfe in the running for two national awards

National building contractor, Speller Metcalfe, has been put forward for two national awards in the Considerate Constructors Scheme National Site Awards 2011 to be presented at Plaisterers' Hall, London on Wednesday 13 April 2011.

Having previously been recognised locally, receiving two awards from Gloucestershire County Council at a ceremony held at the Parliament Rooms of Gloucester Cathedral in May last year for their work on The Longhouse Day Centre and the major extension works at Pauntley School, Speller Metcalfe is now up for national recognition for works undertaken at The Longhouse Day Care Centre and The Longhouse Respite Centre.

Andy Metcalfe from Speller Metcalfe stated: “Split in to two phases, we knew we would be part of the local community for around 18 months and from the outset, consideration of The Longhouse’ operational needs and their clients would need to be paramount.

“With the existing building operating alongside the new build, residents concerns regarding the impact of the building works were addressed through thoughtful planning and open dialogue with all stakeholders, even holding open days for staff, clients and local residents, which all helped steer the project to a successful completion.”

Speller Metcalfe’s selection is in recognition of their overall concern for the needs of all those affected by the projects at The Longhouse, as with residents’ concerns over the installation of a new fence. Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator, Phil Hughes, stated: “General feeling was how considerate Speller Metcalfe were.”

Amanda Henderson, Manager from Longhouse, said: “Speller Metcalfe worked in continuous partnership with us throughout the duration of the project. Consideration was given at each stage of the project to ensure the service provision could be maintained. Any impact to the service and the community was minimised. Every effort was made to engage with the users of the service, stakeholders and the community to share information, listen to comments and promptly respond to these. The users of the service, management, staff teams, and the community have given high praise to Speller Metcalfe for their considerate work throughout the project.”

The Considerate Contractors Scheme National Site Awards recognise the contribution made by building contractors to deliver quality of service and consideration to all those affected by construction works undertaken.

Andy Metcalfe added: “We are delighted that all the hard work and effort put in to making this project such a success, not only in a building context, but in relation to our positive interaction with the local community, has been recognised as part of the National Awards Scheme.’’
