A great night out

Local businessman Peter Twist is already pushing the Christmas message amongst the Midlands business community and urging them to ‘Get involved’ in this year’s charity event organised by The Gentlemen’s Night Out organisation, a fund raising organisation which has been established in the Midlands for over 40 years.

“The message is clear.” says Pete. “Get involved and feel a real sense of community, helping organisations such as The Gentleman’s Night Out raise money for so many people around our region who need your help to make a real difference to so many young lives.”

This year’s event will be held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel, Birmingham on the 10th December. Pete, a director of Bromsgrove based Converged Solutions Ltd., is just one of many who continue to support The Gentleman’s Night Out organisation and have done so for many years. Said Pete: “Throughout the year money is raised through a succession of events held by individuals and companies with golf days, corporate days and raffles, with the result being that they raise significant funds which the charity then uses to help make dreams come true for many children’s and aged charities.”

One such recipient of the charity was 10 year old Frances Wormington, who after developing her second brain tumour her parents found to their horror that they couldn’t afford the insurance to cover Frances’ trip to Disneyland Florida, as it was now in excess of £5,000 –but thanks to The Gentleman’s Night Out, Frances and her family did get to enjoy a fully insured alternative trip of a lifetime to Paris and Euro Disney last July, visiting the Eiffel Tower a place Frances had always wanted to see, making it a real wish come true. Frances’ mother Rosemary, speaking about their trip of a lifetime said: “Sadly Frances passed away in October 2007 but the memories of that holiday help us as parents cope knowing that we did everything we could for her, whilst we could. It’s a trip as a family we will never forget, which is why charities such as The Gentlemen’s Night Out are so important.” Through their desire to support Frances and wanting to help other families in the same situation, Frances’ parents Rosemary and John Wormington, were inspired to launch and help run the Worcestershire Brain Tumour Support Group (WBTSG), helping and supporting others.

Said Pete: “It’s great to hear how by granting relatively small donation requests, the charity does have a profound and lasting effect on not only the recipient but on their families too.”

Assisting with the Special Olympics, fulfilling ‘a wish of a lifetime’ for poorly children with a visit to see Santa Claus in Lapland, and many, many more supported trips, The Gentlemen’s Night Out organisation continues to help others and is hoping for another ‘wish to come true’ night out later this year.
