Bright outlook for Midlands operator Oakland International |

As part of Oakland International’s ongoing work to reduce energy usage throughout their multi temperature supply chain functions, the specialist warehousing and logistics firm has further extended their LED lighting investment in a move set to deliver savings both in terms of carbon reduction by some 21-tonnes and in energy savings of about 42% annually.
Heading the project and responsible for Oakland’s Environmental Management Group, Director of Human Resources and Purchasing, David Hoey, commented: “Oakland International has a strong tradition of investigating and implementing eco-friendly initiatives throughout its operations, continuing to work with alternative processes and methods where possible to reduce our environmental footprint and that of our customers.
“The new LED lighting has had an immediate benefit by greatly reducing our energy consumption and carbon emissions, as well as enhancing the working environment for our team, delivering much improved uniformity in a lighting solution which is more akin to daylight.”
Working with suppliers Ruud Lighting, Oakland is the first business in the UK to use this type of LED lighting in a chilled environment, with the LED product currently used by petrol forecourts and in street lighting.
Said David: “With Oakland’s environmental impact continuing to reduce, even though we have more than doubled in size and operational scale, the additional benefits derived from installing the LED’s include annual savings of £2,400 in energy costs and maintenance charges, and with the LED’s having a life span of over 75,000hr, our savings will equate to well over £19,000 over 10 years, which is considerable.”
