Summer Fair attracts bumper crop of visitors

This year’s summer fair held by Far Forest Lea Memorial CE Primary on Sunday 27th June, enjoyed record temperatures, with many visitors travelling from far and wide, including one couple who had come all the way from Spain.

Feeling more like the Mediterranean, Callow Hill Show Ground echoed to the sounds of clashing medieval swords and the occasional car horn as the day’s busy programme got underway, with the show gaining a reputation for being one of the best community classic car and bike shows in the region.

Visitors enjoyed an eclectic array of gleaming 2 and 4 wheeled motors, whilst sampling and enjoying a range of stalls including the Cider Man, yummy homemade cakes, a spot of welly-wanging and beautiful handicrafts.

Far Forest PTA Chair, Mrs Penny Child, thanking visitors and supporters, said: “This year’s event has again been an amazing success with wonderful stalls, cars, bikes and a spectacular medieval re-enactment display; and on behalf of all the children, their families and teachers at the school, we would like thank everyone for coming and making it such a great success.”

Visitor numbers and exhibitors taking part continue to gain momentum year on year. Amongst the exhibitors and classic car enthusiasts again this year were husband and wife, ex-locals Barry Reading and his wife Pauline, who travel from Spain to take part in the show every year. Said Barry: “We have been coming for many years and we would like to congratulate the organisers.”

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the have a go archery, bouncy castles, local cider and cakes and so much more.
