Pole dancing raises WBTSG cash |

41 year old Pamela Waterlow from Droitwich is a lady with great passion and determination, bouncing back from the serious news that she had a brain tumour, to raising an amazing £400 for a local community support group, the Worcestershire Brain Tumour Support Group (WBTSG).
Teaching pole dancing for the last 3 years Pamela has a fully equipped pole studio, with full length mirrors and a professional 2” spinning/static pole at her home. Pamela teaches all abilities: “I teach students from beginners to intermediate, right up to advanced levels, and they come from all over Worcestershire, including one lady who travels every week to my studio from Gloucestershire.”
Pole Exercise is well-known for being a fantastic all over body workout and a great way of having fun and keeping fit, and according to Pamela: “It’s very addictive. At the beginning of 2008, I collapsed and was rushed into hospital and was diagnosed with a benign Meningioma Brian Tumour. Being in hospital for some considerable time, I felt I had let my pole students down, so when I did finally come out of hospital I had put on so much weight due to steroids and having little or no exercise, I was left really out of shape.
“My students were fantastic, maintaining their friendship and once I was well enough to start training again, together they helped me to begin the difficult road to recovery. The last 6 months has been spent working and training and doing what I can to raise funds and to support the WBTSG, to even becoming the support group’s secretary.”
The WBTSG, set up following the death of ten year old Frances, the daughter of Rosemary and John Wormington, who sadly lost her battle against a malignant brain tumour at the end of 2007, is a rapidly growing Worcestershire charity which provides support and information to brain tumour sufferers and their families from across the region.
Founder of the WBTSG, Rosemary Wormington commenting on Pamela’s generous donation said: “She is an amazing individual who has fought hard to regain her health. We are all extremely grateful to her for the ingenious use of her pole dancing classes to raise much needed funds for the WBTSG.”
Following life saving treatment, Pamela is now left with epilepsy, relying on anti-convulsion drugs to keep her seizure free. Said Pamela: “Raising money for the WBTSG was my way of putting something back and saying ‘thank you’ and I hope it will help assist others who are going through what I have been through; it wasn’t an easy journey but the support from the WBTSG was exceptional.”
