Speller Metcalfe help local Primary visit Tewkesbury project

National building contractor, Speller Metcalfe hosted children from Tirlebrook Primary School in Tewkesbury for an entertaining educational tour recently.

Whilst developing a new artificial grass pitch and sports changing facility for Tewkesbury School, Speller Metcalfe’s project surveyor Nigel Francis, whose son attends Tirlebrook Primary School, remarked on the interest the project was receiving at the nearby primary school.

Martin Brennan, Speller Metcalfe’s project manager was only too pleased to help encourage the children’s understanding of major construction, said: “When I was contacted by my colleague, about having the kids on a visit, I was delighted to offer a tour for them as it gives them the chance to learn about the many aspects involved in the building works that Speller Metcalfe carries out on a construction site like the one at Tewkesbury School.”

The children were given a tour of the Tewkesbury School project site and were delighted to get up close to the heavy duty plant and construction vehicles such as the diggers and loading vehicles as well as being given an insight into health and safety procedures.

Nadine Warmington, Year 1 teacher at Tirlebrook Primary School stated: “Our children loved wearing hard hats and high visibility jackets which made them feel like proper builders and they especially enjoyed seeing the site vehicles making it so memorable that the children have been acting out their visit, from filling in the registers and organising safety clothing, to building walls and imagining they are driving the diggers!”

Speller Metcalfe is a keen advocate of promoting best practice in the building trade and also encouraging social initiatives that benefit people within local communities.
