Speller Metcalfe signs up for major Midlands based apprenticeship scheme

National building contractor, Speller Metcalfe has signed up for a major West Midlands Apprenticeship Scheme, ‘100 Apprentices in 100 days’ an initiative to boost local employment and which will offer places to talented students from Worcester Technology College.

Jointly organised by Worcester News and the National Apprenticeship Service, with further support from Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce and Worcestershire County Council, this hugely significant challenge will see 100 young people from local colleagues and educational establishments gaining apprenticeships with regional businesses during the 100 day period.

Having recently been accepted onto the West Midlands Contractor Framework, Speller Metcalfe was extremely keen to register for the scheme as soon as it was announced as the rapidly growing construction business looks to invest in future talent, initially focusing on carpentry and brickwork.

Joint Managing Director of Speller Metcalfe, Steve Speller, said: “The ‘100 in 100’ is a fantastic initiative and gives Speller Metcalfe an opportunity to provide talented trainees and apprentices withthe chance to learn about the building and construction industry.”

Two students from Worcester Technology College, Richard Booton and Miles Crabtree, have already been hired for Speller Metcalfe’s apprenticeship placements and will be working alongside section mentors Curt Soley- Bayliss, a Bricklayer and Wayne Clayton, a Carpentry Foreman on site shortly.

A delighted Frances Roberts, Worcestershire Employer Services Manager for the National Apprenticeship Service, went on to add: "It is great that Speller Metcalfe, a company known for investing in training for their workforce, is supporting the Worcestershire 100 in 100 campaign, it’s wonderful that they have recognised the tangible benefits that employing apprentices will bring to their business and that they are looking to the local community to employ them.”

Speller Metcalfe continues to back regional initiatives that support communities and the people within them.
