Spelling quiz gets pupils thinking |
|
Holy Trinity International School hosted a tense and exciting inter-schools spelling quiz to celebrate World Spelling Day on Wednesday 16th March.
The children, all aged between 9-11 years of age, took turns in their school teams of three, to correctly spell words over the course of several highly competitive, but fun rounds, and with Franche Primary School eventually proclaimed the overall spelling quiz champions.
Separate contests for pupils in years 5 and 6 pitted like pupils against each other, with many rounds timed, students were able to apply spelling rules that they had previously learnt in the classroom.
Head of Holy Trinity International Prep School, Jon Brunt, said: “This is the first time we have held a spelling contest and what a fantastic event, and brilliant result for all the students and schools who took part.
“Designed to encourage team building, working under pressureand to promote spelling within the classroom, feedback from teachers has been extremely positive and it is now hoped that this will become a regular spelling event in the school calendar.”
