The Worcestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra will be performing their annual Christmas Concert at the Royal British Legion in Droitwich on Tuesday 2nd December, with all monies raised donated to the Legion.
As their last concert of the year, WYJO Musical Director Ian Hattersley said: “2008 has gone with a swing, again being an amazing year. Extremely busy, we’re now really looking forward to rounding the year off on a high ‘jazz’ note!”
WYJO, having the immense pleasure of playing with some of the counties finest budding young musicians, will be playing alongside accomplished jazz soloists as they perform a mixed repertoire of arrangements from jazz standards with a Christmas theme, including well-known and much loved Christmas classics in a swing style. Hattersley with his impeccable pedigree as a professional trumpet player, from his time backing stars as the Platters, Davey Jones of the Monkeys and Frankie Avalon. 
Actively recruiting new musicians to the WYJO fold, Mr Hattersley commented: “The orchestra works hard to perform at the highest level to ensure our up and coming young musicians have the chance to participate in creating one of the most important and creative musical art forms. Our Christmas Concert always appeals to everyone, playing seasonal classics and much-loved Christmas oldies and we hope it will help is attract a new players for the forthcoming 2009 season.”
All musicians are performing for free with all proceeds raised from ticket sales going to the Droitwich British Legion.
Tickets priced at £3.00 and available on the door. Concert begins at 7.30pm.
