St George’s Day has been celebrated with shields, dragons and themed board games at Little Trinity Nursery in Kidderminster.
Saint George is the patron saint of England and has been celebrated annually on 23 April since 1222.
Nursery Manager Gaynor Carter commented:
“The children showed a lot of creativity by painting dragon faces and English flags on their shields and acting out some of the scenes from the short film we watched that explained who St. George was. It was very enjoyable and wonderful to participate in the national celebrations of St. George.”
St. George is also the patron saint of soldiers, archers, cavalry and chivalry, farmers and field workers, riders and saddlers and is celebrated by Christian churches, countries, and regions of which he is the patron saint, including Bulgaria, Ethiopia, Greece, Georgia, Portugal, Romania, Syria, Lebanon, Catalonia, Alcoi, Aragon, and Rio de Janeiro.
