With longer days and the gentle mix of rain and warmth encouraging new growth, children at Little Trinity Nursery in Kidderminster have been making the most of spring in their nursery garden.
This season, the children have been busy planting seeds and bulbs, as well as sowing flowers and a variety of vegetables, all in preparation for a vibrant summer display.

Nursery Manager, Gaynor Carter, said: “Gardening and growing are activities the children truly love. They enjoy planting seeds and bulbs, watching as flowers and vegetables begin to sprout, and learning about the wonders of the natural world through hands-on experiences.”
Alongside planting potatoes, carrots, cucumbers, and lettuces-which will be harvested and enjoyed in the nursery kitchen, the children have also been creative, making pictures using real flowers and bulbs as their inspiration.
These nature-inspired crafts allow them to explore different textures, shapes, and colours, sparking their artistic expression and deepening their connection to the garden. Gardening provides opportunities to touch, smell, and observe plants, helping them understand their environment while fostering curiosity and responsibility.
Added Gaynor: “Being outdoors is always a favourite, especially when it’s time to harvest. The children love tasting the fruits of their labour in nursery or taking their home-grown produce home to share with their families.”
From exploring the garden with trowels and forks to watering plants and creating flower and bulb pictures, these springtime activities ensure that all children, from the youngest at two years old and up, can take part in a fun, educational, and memorable gardening adventure.
