A Kidderminster music teacher has returned from the European Sprint Duathlon Championships with a silver medal.
As part of the GB age group team Sarah Paterson who teaches at Holy Trinity School took the silver in the 55-59 age category.
Said Sarah: “I’m delighted to bring home silver.
“The first 5km run was over cobbles, sand, tarmac and wooden boardwalks, and I did this in 21 minutes which gave me a solid start. The bike leg was technical and a bit lumpy. I loved it! The last 2.5km run was gruelling but the crowd support was incredible."
Competing for GB in both European and World Championships, Portugal was her seventh time representing GB securing four previous podiums with Gold last year in Venice at the European Championships and in Aviles in the World Championships 2021.
Added Sarah: “There was such a wonderful atmosphere in Coimbra and it was amazing to be back with my multisport friends. It was a bonus to get a podium finish again. I have my coach, Dan Geisler, and school to thank for all the support they have given me."
Selected to compete at the World Championships in August in Australia she has had to withdraw due to the costs involved but is hoping to compete next year following qualification and selection by British Triathlon for both the European and World Championships 2025.
