A simple question from a group of curious children at Little Trinity Nursery in Kidderminster has sparked a fascination with one of the nursery's most popular residents, Ted the tortoise.

The interest began when children started asking staff how old Ted is. While Ted has been part of the Little Trinity Nursery family since 2014, nobody knows his exact age, turning him into something of a mystery among the youngsters.

Determined to discover more, the children began learning about tortoises, how they grow, and the remarkably long lives many can live. Their questions led to discussions about animals, ageing, habitats, and the importance of caring for living creatures.

Nursery Manager Gaynor Carter said: "The children were fascinated when they realised nobody knew exactly how old Ted is. What started as a simple question quickly grew into a wider conversation about tortoises and the natural world.

"Ted is a much-loved member of our nursery family, and it's been wonderful to see how curious the children have become. Experiences like this help encourage questions, conversations and learning, all driven by the children's own interests."

Ted remains a firm favourite with generations of Little Trinity children, providing opportunities for youngsters to learn about responsibility, animal care and respect for living things.

The discovery journey highlights Little Trinity Nursery's child-led approach to learning, where children's natural curiosity helps shape everyday activities and encourages them to explore the world around them.
