Diwali Celebrated by Kidderminster’s Little Trinity Nursery

Children at Little Trinity Nursery in Kidderminster have been embracing new flavours, colours, and traditions as they learned about and celebrated the Indian festival of Diwali.

Nursery Manager Gaynor Carter explained: “We celebrate Diwali so that the children can learn about and appreciate different cultures and beliefs, helping every child feel valued and respected.

“They really enjoyed making paper plate lamps, learning Diwali songs and listening to stories as well as looking at Rangoli patterns, and tasting a variety of Indian foods.”

Often called the Festival of Lights, Diwali or Deepawali is celebrated over five days, beginning with Dhanteras and concluding with Bhai Dooj. This year Diwali takes place on 20th October.

Gaynor added: “The children loved getting involved with lots of creative activities, from making brightly coloured firework pictures and candle plate crafts to decorating henna hands and rangoli patterns. They also loved the sensory tray, filled with coloured sand, lights and candles!

“It’s a wonderful way for them to experience the joy of another culture, and we hope they now have a greater understanding of the importance of Diwali in the Hindu faith.”
